NIAGARA Elementary INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC
Niagara Elementary Instrumental Music is an extra curricular music program for all elementary students within the District School Board of Niagara starting in grade 4 to grade 8. Originally part of the Lincoln County Board of Education since the 1960's, we offer In-school classes covering Brass (Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone, Baritone Horn & Tuba) and Woodwind (Flute, Oboe, Bassoon, Clarinet, Alto Saxophone, Tenor Saxophone) Percussion (Snare Drum, Bass Drum, Cymbals, Orchestra Bells, Xylophone,Vibraphone, Timpani, Bongos, Roto-Toms and Auxiliary Percussion such as Maracas, Triangle, Tambourine, Claves, Cow Bell and Woodblock) and Strings (Violin, Viola, Cello and Double Bass).
Along with weekly In-school classes, students participate in a weekly After-school Band or Orchestra Rehearsal. Instruments may be used from Niagara Elementary Instrumental Music for a nominal fee or students may use their own instrument. Our Instructors (see who we are on our biography page) provide parents with updates in the form of progress reports twice a year and invite all to "open" Band or Orchestra rehearsals along with a Christmas Concert and Year End Concert. During April and May of each year, Instructors hold Brass & Woodwind, Percussion and String Workshops that are open to all interested students. We have two Jazz Ensembles plus the No Strings Attached Fiddlers group that students can join and participate in. 2nd Year Intermediate and 3rd/4th Year Senior students are eligible to participate in the Canada's Wonderland Music Festival that takes place in June of each year. Providing students have attended the majority of In-school classes and After-school rehearsals and can perform the music required, the day provides the students with a Music Festival experience followed up with a few hours of Wonderland fun!!
Classes start in the third week of September and run until the end of May. The After-school Band and Orchestra rehearsals begin in the first week of October. Most In-school classes are held in the student's home school. Sometimes a student may have to travel to a neighbouring school for his/her lesson when the number of students in a class is less than the required number necessary to actually have a class. Our Music Program runs because of YOU and your elementary school age child. We do not solicit or receive any monies from outside organizations or from the District School Board of Niagara. Our prices remain more than competitive in comparison to private instruction.....for less than $6.00 per lesson, your child can learn and musically grow with the Niagara Elementary Instrumental Music program. Give us a try and become one of thousands of music students within the Niagara Region that has had the opportunity of experiencing the Niagara Elementary Instrumental Music program. We feel you'll be pleasantly surprised!
